Advice needed: NHS workers being scheduled for more hours but being paid the same as their peers.

So my sister is a doctor in the NHS and started about 4 months ago. My sisters friend on the ward realised that she (the friend) was getting scheduled for many more weekend shifts than the rest of the cohort, she had done 5 weekends in the month while others had only done 3, peoples shifts are decided by and algorithm so it is meant to be random and even. So she went and asked her manager what was going on and if something could be done about it. The manager replied “Oh its all ok because it works itself out in the end”, so she went through all the rosters in the last 4 months and counted how many hours everyone has done. It turns out that there are massive discrepancies between the highest and lowest hour workers with range of hours worked being **52 hours** in the four…

So she went and asked her manager what was going on and if something could be done about it. The manager replied “Oh its all ok because it works itself out in the end”, so she went through all the rosters in the last 4 months and counted how many hours everyone has done. It turns out that there are massive discrepancies between the highest and lowest hour workers with range of hours worked being **52 hours** in the four months. My sister is one of the ones at the upper bound. That probably doesn't sound like a whole lot but they work about 10 hours a day as they are expected to stay after hours. I know my sister is about to keel over from the fatigue and stress of it all, and I was wondering if anything can be done. Each of the rotations are 4 months long so actually its not going to all work out in the end because she's moving over to another department. I never read her contract or anything, and I imagine that its pretty water tight given that its a massive government run institution, and there will be some messed up clause about working long hours, but surely its not allowed to schedule people for significantly more hours than others. She's justifiably fuming about this, having her fingers worked to the bone but getting paid the same as others who worked less because the computer said so. Is there anything that can be done about this?
