Advice on hostile/awkward work environment.
Quick back story. I’m 29m and I work in maintenance, I have my entire life starting from a mechanic, to now an office job doing planning. I started a new job about two months ago, apprehensively because I’m trying to get out of the field. Maintenance 90% of the time regardless of company is full of 50ish year old white males, who have horrible racial, political, and sexual views, without being prejudice, I think you can get the gist.
Since I’ve been here I’ve heard personally someone in my department trash a FTM transgender woman, talk about how gay people aren’t correct, and no one’s born that way, and their “religion” says not to accept it, and so if they can’t respect him, why should he respect them? One of the other workers calls me “kid” because of my young age for my position. Another one constantly talks about having sexual dreams about other female co-workers. They have also associated religious beliefs with not accepting gay people, and that they are “ok” as long as they keep it from them. All this along with the constant talk about how Biden is this, that, and the world is ruined by my age of workforce because “we don’t want to work”
The biggest thing recently is during a meeting with multiple people in the room, we had the planning board on the computer. Granted, I’m very new and this is a world recognized company with a lot of responsibilities. Someone in management (direct title manager) blurted out “who schedules this work? Fricken “R (mentally handicapped) words”. need to not touch stuff”
Like what? I am on the spectrum and have awful ADHD but I do my job well, and I feel lost. How do I go to HR to report a whole department? The position I replaced, the man was shunned to the point he had to leave because he went to HR for another worker almost attacking him.
Any advice is appreciated and helpful.
