Finally escaped the carrot dangling in front of my face; management scrambles

I had been promised a promotion for the past 3-4 years. There were constant discussions about which path I want to take then just waiting for the right position to open. Naturally, I became frustrated and even told my manager that I don’t enjoy the work I’m doing in an attempt to let him know the promotion needed to come soon. Nothing had changed 8 months later. I ended up finding a new job that pays much better and is more up my alley. When I handed in my 2 weeks notice, my manager had the balls to say that he felt blindsided by the news. During about an hour long conversation, he asked how we can mend the trust and keep me on board (lol). Eventually later in the day I was offered that promotion that I had been promised for years but told them it’s too little too…

I was very good at this job, which involves managing a specific part of the business. There is absolutely no one trained enough to fill my shoes. My manager always stated that he never had to check up on me knowing the job would get done. Now he will have to waste a bunch of his time training someone new which will take months.

Don’t be loyal to a company that isn’t loyal to you.
