I have a job at a trendy grocery/retail space. When i got there it was actually really great even though pay was pretty bad. I can see the place from my apartment so the lack of commute made up for it.
Lately they’ve been throwing way too much on out plate, adding drinks and a food menu onto an already very lean staff pool.
With all this happening I am looking for ways out. On top of all this as we go into summer months they sent out a big message to everyone saying that getting your shift covered is “no longer their job” already a red flag and leading me to get out. However the largest part of this is mentioning that we must hand in new availability effective for july 1st. And you must work at least one weekend shift due to being short on staff.
I am the only person afaik that has weekends off but it works out ok since im more “full time” during the week. So to this i basically wanna say hell no because i like my weekends off and im truthfully an above average worker for them. If they force me im pretty happy to say “if its effective july 1st that’ll be my last day. However should I try and get to that date so they can let me go and maybe collect some EI (in ontario) in the meantime? Will I be ineligible since I am the one making that decision? A little guidance would be appreciated!
The worst part is I really liked working there! Things are just getting out of hand.
