After 4 months they told me I was never a supervisor

I work for a locally owned group of small independent restaurants. After 6 months in the first restaurant I was looking for progression and spoke to my area manager about it, ending up being offered a promotion to supervisor in one of our other restaurants and a payrise. This job was further away for me and I'd miss working with these people, but I wanted the supervisor experience. 2 months later a new bar manager joins who's 6 years younger than me but has a lot of good experience. Although he can be lazy, calls in sick often and leaves a lot of jobs for me to do, he's not a bad egg. However I always try and come into work no matter how I'm feeling.

Another 2 months later we go out to a nightclub with staff. The next day I wake up and I have alcohol poisoning, can't stop being sick. I have to phone in sick to work, one of the first times I've had to do this, and of course they all know why. The next week my bar manager takes the whole week off work for sickness, a sickness me and my GM have too, and he even gives me a written warning from his sick bed at home. I'm forced to prep and run a wedding by myself.

The next week my bar manager sits me down. He's spoken to our executive bar manager, who's spoken to our area manager. Apparently there was a miscommunication. I'm not and have never been a supervisor, they said. They have no need for one. It's taken them 4 months to tell me this. The only reason I took the job in the first place was progression. Now I don't know what to do.

Where we work too, we get a flat rate of hourly service charge. £2 an hour. Service charge is on every bill which obviously means we receive a lot less tips. The most we can make on service in 8 hours is £16. Those who work in the industry know that with tips you can make anywhere from £50-£100+ a night depending on the night.

I've always thought the service charge was ripping our staff of but I've not said anything. Now they've lied to me and gone back on their word, I think I'm just going to quit. I'm going to set up a meeting with my area manager to figure out where this “miscommunication” is coming from, but I'm not putting any more energy into a place that's treated me like this. This used to be the best job I've ever had.

TLDR I work in a service industry job where we get £2 an hour service charge instead of actual tips. After 4 months of working as a “supervisor” they told me I'd never been a supervisor and they had no need for one.
