Antiwork

After 4 years with no promotion at work, I got a 58 percent pay increase & new position. BUT. I’m not excited.

How do I go about this? I’ve been passed up on merit increases for years and my company failed to correct the issue. I know for a fact that I’ve displayed and maintained excellent work ethic, attendance + professionalism throughout my tenure: My performance reviews have always been stellar and yet and had never received a merit increase to reflect that. The only pay adjustments I had received were cost of living adjustments. Aside from that, no merit increases and no equity while plenty of other underserving people got hooked up. I feel like my company exploited me for years until somebody above me realized, felt bad & finally gave me an opportunity. Fast forward to now, I was enrolled & (just completed) in an accelerated training program for a different department looking to ramp up headcount for their team.

This training was offered out of necessity as they are short on manpower and need the help desperately. I didn’t even interview for this role. They basically sent me an offer letter and said here you go. It’s difficult for me to see the reward factor in this. It feels more like a slap in the face. The 58 percent pay increase is substantial: (Don’t get me wrong). BUT it feels more like my company forgot about me and this is their way of making it up to me. I’ve really plateaued in my burn out and cannot unsee the disappoint and lack of recognition over the years. The new gig will require more effort and dedication that I honestly think I don’t have at this point. Maybe I need something new. Maybe I should stay. Advice is welcomed.
