Antiwork

After working at a hospital for 2 years during a pandemic, I’m denied a necessary-for-me-to-afford-living raise based off of my previous manager’s sabotage. Everyone I speak to it’s “out of their hands”

I hate that I ever ended up in this position, but I was extremely poor and still am. I didn't and still don't have the privilege to just pick up or quit any job. But during 2020 I made a huge mistake, I started working at this hospital. My MIL was already working here and I was doing the 11pm-7am shift so I figured it would be easy. Then I found out from her that there's only 5 people in total on staff for this shift and there's no manager or supervisor at all for the entire night The first day was really hard and hectic, I was just slapped onto the floor and made to follow another worker around to “learn the ropes” which is always a really bad sign when that's what a department/company considers the entirety of their “training.” About a month into working there we get…

The first day was really hard and hectic, I was just slapped onto the floor and made to follow another worker around to “learn the ropes” which is always a really bad sign when that's what a department/company considers the entirety of their “training.” About a month into working there we get told that our hospital was bought by another company but get no other info. I also slowly notice that there is practically no communication between third shift and the other two shifts, 1st and 2nd, after a meeting happens during the day and no one tells any of 3rd shift about it or what was said in this meeting.

Out of nowhere one day maybe a month and a half into working here I'm given a piece of paper saying that I've been coming in 30 min late and have multiple tardies because of this so now I'm on a “90 day attendance probation” and can't be made full-time yet (even though my status was already supposed to have been updated to FT two weeks prior). I questioned it and the supervisor giving me the paper says that MY SHIFT TIME WAS NOW 10:30PM-7AM, BUT LITERALLY NO ONE HAD INFORMED ME OF THE CHANGE. I fought that shit tooth and nail but literally everyone just ignored me, I even wrote emails to the boss people above my manager and got “we'll look into it!” then ghosted every time, even when I asked for updates.

As I'm trying to get them to fix my problems for an entire year I guess he kept causing issues for a lot of other people as well because he got fired in December of 2021. My attendance marks should have been nullified by somebody because what happened wasn't my fault, but now that the manager who messed up everything is gone all the people in my department are acting like it's just out of their hands. I only just got benefits this month and I got passed over for a raise based off this “attendance issue” that was never an issue, it was a shift time being changed that I was never informed of until it was too late.

I know I should have ran for the hills as soon as that manager flipped the script on me and didn't tell me about the shift change so he could keep healthcare benefits away from me, but my car had just broke down and I was about to be homeless so I literally had no choice but to keep working nearby. I know that dude had something against me too because the one time I tried to email him asking why, specifically, I wasn't able to get full-time benefits yet, he said I had to “earn it” because it was a promotion (not like full-time was the position I applied for until you tried to trick me into being stuck in PRN limbo forever).

Currently looking for better pay and benefits, currently only making $15 an hour. Can't wait to quit and leave out of here. Ill just move to a new job and ignore them for 2 weeks then answer their call out of nowhere like “Whaat? Weren't you informed? Did no one tell you? My shift time changed again. It's from 7am-7:01am. I just figured y'all would just kinda know, yunno, the same way I was expected to just know about shift time changes without being told and then got held accountable. Anyways, glad we got that cleared up, bye bye now!”
