Antiwork

After years of being underpaid and treated like shit, I’m so relieved to finally have a great job.

I've had multiple I.T. jobs where I was expected to handle a lot more of a workload than the experts who are paid more and know more. I had to learn everything with little-to-no training and was yelled at by not only the people I was actively helping, but my manager. They paid me 25% less than what I was owed in my city, forced me to use my own fuel to drive places to fix things and micromanaged everything. Finally, I have a job where my manager respects me. She treats me like an equal and assigns me tasks acknowledging that she doesn't know what to do on them or how to do it. Finally, I have a job where my manager respects me. She treats me like an equal and assigns me tasks acknowledging that she doesn't know what to do on them or how to do it. She calls me into her office to personally thank me for my hard work and if there's any time I need off to take it. Nobody is micromanaging my work, they trust me to get it done and don't mind if it takes a long time to do it. The benefits are incredible and the pay is the best I've ever had. Well above what I deserve on paper.

She apologized to me Thursday for not training me properly and spending more time with me, then spent Friday going through everything I had questions on thoroughly. I told her I'm used to learning on my own and she said, “You're really a blessing. I'm not used to having someone so competent. When this project is over we'll be discussing your raise.” I'm also getting my certification training paid for.

There's a rotating on-call schedule. I get paid OT for every second I'm on the phone or working and can do it all remotely with provided equipment. No more being called into the office to flip a switch off the clock.

I know this sub is mostly about how horrible work conditions are but… This right here is how it should be everywhere. A lot of places beat me into submission and I feel like I shouldn't be amazed to find a place that finally treats me well.
