So I’ve been unemployed since just before covid hit. My last 2 jobs were upper level management positions. I can’t seem to get a call back on jobs I apply to.
I’ve always said 3 of us need to win in every situation. Employees, the employer, and the customer. For me it’s a thee leg stool. If it doesn’t work for everybody we walk away from work. And I’ve walked away from a lot. All of that to say I’ve left the last few jobs on great terms. I’m still in touch with and friends with most of my coworkers. For the most part we enjoyed each others company and enjoyed the jobs.
I worked my way up in the job from the bottom. My last few positions were in manufacturing distribution, repair and engineering. I was able to get promoted due to my success at organizing large teams of smart people and my experience in the field.
I don’t have a BA. most of these jobs the employer or manager knew of me through business contacts and i circumvented the recruiter and HR entirely.
I only have an AA and I just turned 45.
The last 3 years I’ve applied to numerous jobs I was qualified for and have never got a return email or phone call. I have mostly applied to adjoining fields where I do not have connections, but I’m qualified for. The majority of these roles express that a BA or relevant work experience will be accepted.
Last time I had this occur was 2008, but unlike then everyone says there’s jobs everywhere now. I’ve seen employers at some companies lament that they is no available employees, yet the same place won’t return a call.
I don’t know how they could know my age.
Is it just me?
I’ll never be able to retire, just figured I’d end up working forever… maybe that’s not really an option…
TLDR: old with an AA not a BA and can’t get a call back for a job.
