Shopping at Aldi, I grab a prefilled bag of pears, unsealed as always. At the register, Cindy (learned her name from my receipt) scans it, rescans it, and says to me, “This is supposed to weigh only 3 pounds; it's over. Did you add pears?” I told her I hadn't; she replies, “I'll let you get away with it this time, but next time I'll have to reprice it.”
Firstly: The fact that I wasn't charged extra proves that the extra weight doesn't affect Cindy's livelihood in any way – so why does she give a fuck? Secondly, if she makes the same false accusation to someone without class consciousness (or a false consciousness that says they're superior to Cindy because their chains are pricier), Cindy's going to be reported to her manager for the double whammy of insulting a customer AND not charging for extra weight.
Cindys of the world, wise up.
