Almost given a job at Sheetz

Several years ago I was trying to find a job, any job, so I applied to work at Sheetz. I went to the first interview and it went fairly well. It was a different location than the one I was applying for, but the manager was the same. All I had to do was pass the second interview at the actual location and the job was mine. The day before the interview we got a good bit of snow that resulted in about a half inch of ice the following morning. For those of you who don't know about snow events in the southern US, we typically get a few inches of snow, it warms up enough during the day to start melting, then it freezes into black ice over night. This typically happens only once or twice a year where I live. Needless to say, no one here is…

Several years ago I was trying to find a job, any job, so I applied to work at Sheetz. I went to the first interview and it went fairly well. Needless to say, no one here is good at driving on ice.

The sun rises that morning to a glistening sheet of ice on the roads, salt brine be damned. I call the manager of the store 4+ hours before my interview and try to reschedule to a different day because I had an old truck at the time that didn't fare too well on ice because of the light truck bed. The manager told me they wouldn't offer me the job because I refused to brave the icy roads.

Now I can understand the need to brave the elements to make it to work on time, I once drove all the way into work in about 6 inches of snow and ice, but I'm not about to risk injury or vehicle damage just to MAYBE get a job at a gas station.

The only thing I missed out on was possibly meeting my wife earlier than I did because she worked at Sheetz as well haha.
