Recently took up this new entry level position that I had hoped would develop into a long term thing. Just had a meeting with my manager and I brought up the subject of raises and how they work. He flat out told me that everybody gets the same percentage increase every year regardless of where you are on the seniority hierarchy and raises aren’t dependent on performance. When I then proceeded to ask him what’s the point of doing your job beyond a satisfactory level without that incentive, he said that he hopes that I take enough pride in my work to exceed expectations. Oh, and that he brings pizza every once and a while. I’m still in school and so haven’t been a part of the workforce for too long but this doesn’t seem like a normal work environment?
