Antiwork

Always pay attention to your earnings. I do restaurant deliveries for a local company as an independent contractor and noticed about 13 dollars was taken out of my earnings. It was a pain to get it back.

Earnings periods are every 2 weeks. It shows your earnings for that period on the driver app. I distinctively remember it saying $202, then the next day it was $189. I emailed support, and a week of sending emails back and forth went something like this… Are you sure? Yes. Can you show a screenshot of when it said $202? I don’t have one. Is it possible you withdrew $13 recently? No I didn’t. Are you sure? Yes. Finally, they tell me they’ll look into it. At this point, the earnings period had already ended. 4 days later they tell me a delivery I completed worth $12.65 had been canceled and that the earnings I saw wasn’t corrected until the next day. The reply of course is concluded with “Apologies for the error. Thank you for driving for us, enjoy the rest of your day!” Hold on, a delivery I…

Thank you for driving for us, enjoy the rest of your day!” Hold on, a delivery I completed has been canceled? So I drove to a restaurant, picked up food, and drove to the house and delivered it, and then that order was canceled and I got nothing for it? Or did they mean something else? I reply and ask for clarification.

The next reply is exactly what I wanted to see. I was supposed to be informed my order was canceled before going to the restaurant but I wasn’t. They didn’t know why I was able to complete the delivery on the driver app, and said they will pay me an incentive for it. Good! Hopefully it’s the full $12.65, but if its just $10, whatever, I was tired of replying to these emails.

A day later I notice the bonus in my earnings, and it’s… 50 cents! WOW! Amazing! I just didn’t know what to do any more. And note that I don’t live in NYC, I often put 10+ miles on my car per delivery and each delivery takes 30-40 minutes on average. We have DoorDash but pay is really bad from my experience, the only other one we have that I know of is GrubHub which no one ever uses. This local company (that I choose to not name) dominates the restaurant delivery industry here. Fortunately, after one more email, they finally confirmed I will get my $12.65.
