Long story short I got hired for America Cruise Lines, thought it was a great place. Was flown out for training, had a decent experience with training and then get flown out to the Mississippi River. Within maybe 20 minutes of being in my room I asked my roommate if this was normal (90-100 degree rooms) yep.
Within 30 minutes of meeting people my manager literally tells me that if I need to cry in her room I can cause it’s going to get hard. (Like wut I’m fine it’s 14 hour days I’ve done that)
OH NO.
Everyone hates being there. Literal fighting/passive shit every day. No one knows where to go or what to do. And the “seniority” are just Stockholm Syndromed in to thinking 6 hours of sleep is normal. No cold water or even ice is normal. Working 7 to 10 hours without a break is normal. The HORROR stories of poor teenagers being stranded in Vicksburg MI, with no money or just in general being sick and kicked off.
More people from my training class had other stories of harassment, being kicked off the boat 10-14 hours prior to their flight departure with no where to go etc.
is this like.. normal?
Or.. do any of us have a way to legal stuff?
Edit: I did leave. Because I wasn’t about to be apart of that whole “just wait a couple weeks it’ll get better”… after our “manager” gave us 12in fans to help with the heat I was DONE lol. they moved me around (like into housekeeping?) after knowing I was wanting to leave to keep me away from the guests and new servers. The management was terrible at communicating too even by the last day I was there.
If you quit, we’ll hopefully it was while they were moving to help you get more time to pack your stuff. they’d kick you off the boat almost within the hour wherever they are at in port. My old roommate packed her stuff within an hour, left a good portion of stuff (as did I) and were both just kinda stranded but happy to be off that boat.
