Am I allowed to sue my employer?

A few months ago I started working part time at a fire department in utah, and feel that I’m being taken advantage of. A few weeks ago I worked 8 days straight for 11.66/hr 24/7 with no overtime. The department has a policy that says part time employees don’t get overtime. A few months ago I started working part time at a fire department in utah, and feel that I’m being taken advantage of. A few weeks ago I worked 8 days straight for 11.66/hr 24/7 with no overtime. I decided to just let it pass as I am trying to prove myself and get on full time so I can have a raise and a set schedule with benefits.

Today I sprained my foot outside of work and got a doctors note for light duty. I sent it to one of my officers and the officer said I can’t work at all and I will be taken off of the schedule until I have a note from my dr clearing me for normal duties. My department runs ambulances and I have the qualifications to work on an ambulance providing medical care instead of doing any heavy work. This really pissed me off.

I moved four hours away and took a pay cut to work at this department. I was making 3200/month before I moved and now I’m barely even pulling in 1500/month. I’m not even getting a bone thrown at me. Does anyone know the labor laws in utah surrounding these issues? Any advice?
