Am I being taken for a fool by my boss?

I recently started working for a small restaurant owned by this older couple. It just started out so there is only one employee at a time working with the couple (one does the cooking with me, the other is in the back room/ occasionally serves if it gets busy). Me and the lady work both the kitchen and the cash register/ customer service (again, v small restaurant). When I started out they told me that since they were the owners, the employee working would be receiving 100% of the tips made during the shift. Well I just got my first pay and noticed that the tips I got were way below what I had made (I keep track at the end of every shift) and when I brought it up they basically told me that the credit card company charges them for every transaction so I get only 60% of…
