I currently work at a manufacturing facility that makes aerospace parts. It's a bridge job for me but is ok for now.
Sometimes we are forced to do 10 hour days and some days my department doesn't have any work to do at all. On slow days I get moved to help other departments. Which is fine but a couple times now I've asked if I can volunteer to go home instead. I don't expect to be paid I just don't want to be there and have other things I can be doing. But every time they have refused. I'm getting really frustrated with their unwillingness on this every time.
I don't mind helping when I want the hours but I really do think it should be voluntary as it is not in my job description and I was hired for 1 job not 10 different ones.
Am I overreacting? I'm getting so frustrated about it that I just work slow now but I don't understand why they're so against it. Other departments being behind is not my responsibility!
