Am I petty?

I have had so many reasons to quit my job but as we know, it is always easier said than done. I do love the work I do and have great benefits. I have not landed a new job yet; I feel like I don’t know how my skills transfer outside of my current position. I have 9 years experience, 5 of which have been for my current company. I make 40k and live in a major US city. I have been fighting them for months for a raise- one they said couldn’t happen/doesn’t exist even though they promoted someone to a position who has only been there for a year that I should have received. In a few weeks I will receive a company wide salary adjustment that they talked up for months that honestly will only make a 50-100 difference on my paychecks. After all is said and done, I will still have days between paychecks where I struggle to know if I’ll be able to put gas in my car or fuel my body with food.

My final straw has finally come- and it’s so petty and small but it shows they have the power to change my life and they won’t.. three people left my similar position (which they pay the same as me even though I have four more years experience on them) and they posted the position at $100 more a year. I don’t care that it comes to pennies-dollars more a paycheck.

Why can’t you give me a raise!? You refer to me as your longest standing and most valuable employee. You’ve been dangling the carrot too long. I’m done with you.
