I am currently living in a car with my wife in the Walmart parking lot. My wife works at said Walmart and had a job before that but were currently almost totally out food.
Normally she gets food stamps but one of her former employers fucked her over. How you may ask? The employer didn't give her any shifts for over 4 months due to her needing a medical accommodation. First they rejected it outright due to “medical inconsistencies” which involved them accusing my wife of writing the medical note herself. They called the doctor and it was confirmed it was a legitimate note.
The employer then refused to release her from work despite not giving shifts for months, defaulting her to constructive dismissal from the company. The company also has contuined to tell the food stamp people that she is still currently employed there despite giving her 0 shifts. Whenever my wife has tried to rectify this issue with them they ask if she wants to quit. The employer finally as agreed to sign her form so she can get food stamps again since the state stopped beleaving the company. Pretty easy to prove they are fucking with her when she gets every schedule emailed to her still, months of evidence of 0 shifts.
I am Canadian so I cannot currently work to help her, were working on getting me a temp visa, and I also don't really understand why this has been so fucked up for her. I was convinced she should get unemployment for this to, but when we applied they denied her saying she was still employed. Does anyone know if we can still submit for unemployment after she gets her stop work form?
I get my tax return soon and she gets paid on Thursday, so we're just trying to hold out until then. Pray to whatever God you believe in, we could really use it right now.
