I just did the math from (unnamed side gig app) I use. I make about 27$ (39$ regularly) an hour deducting the gas and not including the tax that would be taken out. What sucks is I don't think I can afford benefits with this wage unless I cap myself. Then another thing I have to worry about is managing the taxes. For a business that overcharges their customers and places such high expectations on me to make them look reputable is just monotony. What makes my living hell kafka-esque is working a warehouse job on top. I've done my fair share of service industry work, with multiple OSHA violation and what have you. But this… THIS… takes the cake. Not only am I talked down to, I understand why they do it. This is a job made for people not to think, to just put box on belt and go. But to constantly nag to my managers about getting a name tag that so many people nag at me about (which losing because they expect a truck to be filled fast and require the name tag in certain locations where a box can easily rip it off when properly carrying a box or can easily fall off.) it's the lack of communication, the lack of just general care that bugs me. Like I get that some people want to clock in and out, but idk, maybe it's my chef side showing, but if I was able to get away with as much as these people do, I would have killed someone.
