An alum of my university says he throws away the resumes of the applicants who put education before experience.

I volunteered to represent the career center at my school during an open house last weekend. While I was sitting at my booth, an old guy approached me. He said that he was an alum of my university and currently worked as a hiring manager at a cybersecurity company. I explained to him that my school’s career department helps students write resumes and find jobs and internships. He then proudly told me that he immediately disposes of the resumes of job candidates who put their education before their work experience. I found this incredibly stupid, since he’s assuming how competent a job candidate is simply based on how they format their resumes. My supervisor was sitting next to me and asked him if it ever crossed his mind that he could be eliminating competent people with great education and work experience based on a minor detail. He responded by saying that if they really want a job at his PrEsTiGiOuS tech company, they’ll value their work over their “expensive education.” She then asked him if he requested applicants to put experience before education on the job descriptions so they’re aware of how he prefers resumes to look. He said “nope, only ReAl PrOfEsSiOnAlS will know how I like my resumes.” Then he grabbed one of our pamphlets and walked away without saying another word. 🤡
