An old job changed my salary a week into starting my job

Ok so this story is a bit more then a year old now but I decided it might be nice to just share it and have other people’s opinions on the matter. So before I start all of this occurred in Canada as an FYI. So before I started my new job I was working retail for about a bit more then a year still working minimum wage for the responsibilities of 3 positions during Covid when everything was getting more expensive. I had asked for raises but nothing came of it and I was left feeling unappreciated. To put into perspective I was working 11.30. This was just the top of the iceberg with this losers but that’s a story for another time. Fast forward a bit and I get a job offer from a Guy who owns a “construction company” (keep that line in mind it’ll be relevant…

Fast forward a bit and I get a job offer from a Guy who owns a “construction company” (keep that line in mind it’ll be relevant later). And it was incredibly enticing since my salary would shoot up to 20$ per hour. I took it up on the spot, plus he knew my father who did have good things to say about his character so I’d assume it would be fine. (It wasn’t) I was knowingly hired that I had no prior construction experience, colour blind and with a learning disorder (autism/Aspergers) and I would be working the summer.

So fast forward to the end of the first week and it didn’t go so well like at all, first thing I noticed was that there was ONLY HIM WORKING. There was zero crew so red flag number 1. And the absolute worst part is that he took me into his office at the end of the week and told me he was changing my salary to a “training salary” to 15/h. I didn’t know my rights back then and thought this was fine but he never provided any additional training whatsoever nor is it legal to change a salary in the manner that he did.

He was an incredibly cruel and abusive boss taking any chance he had to yell at me for not working to the started he wanted and such (explains why he was working alone). Speaks to his character when he cheated on his wife and remarried someone YOUNGER THEN HIS DAUGHTER.
