An old work memory posted to another sub

I posted this to a UK sub that made the front page. But this took place in the US so I am posting it here. This happened at a well known union busting law firm about 30 years ago. Early in my career I worked in HR at a law firm that specialized in helping employers defend themselves against employee grievances. The head of Payroll was embezzling and got away with it, because the firm thought it would be such bad PR for them. But as the investigation was closing in, she used personal and healthcare records on a partner to just happen to call him right after his divorce on days when he was getting treatment for a serious disease.

The embezzler had check signature authority and a check printer in their office.

So right before she was walked out. All of a sudden she was engaged to this partner.

She left to move in with him.

He found her paperwork on her termination in her belongings and kicked her out.

Then he sued the firm for not protecting him against her.

But wait! There is more!

When her desk was cleaned out there were forms from a school she claimed to have a degree from. She flunked out. But told the firm she had earned her an MBA to get a raise.

Another person in HR was furious. She called the school to do a routine degree check. The school called back and said “no degree for this person.” And then somehow the voicemail got forwarded to the entire firm and not just the department.

But wait! Even more!

According to LinkedIn, The lady moved to another state and has been working as an HR executive for the last 30 years.

I moved on to another field. But I never trust HR anywhere.
