First ever post. On mobile sorry for any errors.
I do not give my permission for this to be used or posted anywhere else.
I arrived at work this last week to a meeting on my calendar. I jumped on the call to immediately be accused of changing my own access permissions in a certain system.
Background I have worked in my current position for my current company for 2 years. I am in a department that represents the company and people if you catch my drift.
First, I worked with a small local company that was then acquired by a large global company. To say it lightly the ENTIRE transition has been a nightmare with minimal communication, outlines, expectations or even having the systems merged together.
ANYWAY, I’m my position I am in a lot of high level meetings and assisted the financial person/ people and head of our department for our country in running reports for revenue calculations etc. mind you I had access to these reports (this is important) and there was never any communication or documentation letting me know that there may be any type of restrictions on using this data for these internal revenue reports.
Ok, back to the original story, so I was immediately accused of breaching data blah blah blah, asked if I did this that or the other, some of it I remembered and some of it didn’t sound right which I was completely honest about. They continue to inform me that this was against company standards and not only that but they received an “anonymous” email from some outside source that I have embezzled from previous companies I have worked for and that I seem nice and helpful but I am not to be trusted.
(Just an FYI before I started for the original company I had to go through an extensive background check on top of my previous employer being a government entity which is much more stringent than the company that I was hired into.)
So they proceed to inform me because of their so called “data breech” on top of the fact they can’t find my previous background check (shocker as they haven’t merged systems or asked anyone for it). And the anonymous email that I need to leave the premises immediately, take all my belongings and not speak with any current or former employees about the situation and I am suspended pending termination dependent on the outcome of the investigation.
After all this I get home and they want me to sign a document acknowledging why I have been suspended(which I have not) and a new background check (which I have done).
I did email them asking for proof of the data breech and the policy regarding it and they will not provide it to me or any information on the “anonymous” email.
I have never even had any type of disciplinary conversation in my entire career and now this? WTF has this ever happened to anyone else? Is this legal?
In the US if that is relevant.
