Story time- Retail manager

I was about 19/20 and I worked at a retail store in the mall. I cannot confirm or deny that it was Joann Fabrics. Anyway… I would often car pool with a coworker who I had become close friends with since working there. One day, I was driving to work with my coworker and got rear ended at a stop light. I immediately called the manager to say we were in an accident and would be in ASAP. She said “well how late are you gonna be, we open at 8”. I would often car pool with a coworker who I had become close friends with since working there. One day, I was driving to work with my coworker and got rear ended at a stop light. I immediately called the manager to say we were in an accident and would be in ASAP. She said “well how late are you gonna be, we open at 8”. I told her I wasn't sure but I would be there when I could. I ended up getting to work at about 8:40. She was pissed, saying that she an another employee have had to run the store for 40 mins.

Later that day she forbade my coworker from riding to work with me. FWIW we lived in the same neighborhood. Literally, to get out of my neighborhood, I had to drive past her house. She said that she couldn't risk us both being late if something like this happened again. Of course, being 20 yrs old, neither of us stood up to her because we were scared we would lose our jobs. I wish we did! That store was short staffed way before covid hit. We kept carpooling. I just dropped my coworker off on the other side of the mall and she would walk down so we arrived 5 mins apart. Manager probably knew but who cares.

TLDR: most retail managers suck and don't give a single shit about their employees
