Anybody else find the whole “ask me 2 weeks in advance if you want a day off” to be utter bullshit?

For context: I got an earful from my boss today because I asked to take the day off to go to my grandmas funeral. She unfortunately passed away after a long and hard battle with Alzheimer’s. When I asked to take the day off to go to her funeral, my boss told me, “if you wanted today off, you should’ve asked me at LEAST a month prior. So the answer is no, you can’t go”. Wow! Yes because I’m magically supposed to fucking know exactly what time and day an emergency is going to take place in my life that will require me to take the day off right? On top of not being able to attend the funeral because of this bullshit, I’m also being verbally shit and shamed on by my whole family at the moment.
