Anyone else hate being ghosted?

I recently was offered a job at the beginning of February by a recruiter that was helping hire for another company. It was an intro level contract position for translation and started at 24/hr. The best part was that it came with all the benefits of a full time employee: health, dental, vision, 401k, life, and even pet. The recruiter also said that there was a possibility for promotion and going from 24/hr to anywhere from 36-48/hr. And since I was familiar with the company that was hiring, I wasn’t too worried about it being legit or not. So I was understandably excited. This recruiter said that he would keep me updated on the details, to email him or text him for updates, that he would send my info and resume to the project manager I would be under, and anything else that happened. So I was understandably excited.

This recruiter said that he would keep me updated on the details, to email him or text him for updates, that he would send my info and resume to the project manager I would be under, and anything else that happened.

Two weeks go by and I hear nothing. Then, after I called him, he tells me that the company had cross-promoted the position and had found and offered the position to another person. But the recruiter said that he hadn’t heard if the other person had taken the position and would keep my updated.

After another two weeks, I called him AGAIN asking for anything, and he said the project manager had been silent because the company had been planning for this HUGE conference, but that he was scheduled to have a meeting with her in a couple days.

The only problem is that any time in between those calls, I would ask for an update. He wouldn’t answer. LinkedIn messages, texts, emails. Nothing.

Now we come to today. I just sent an email to the recruiter saying that that would be the last time I asked for an update. Haven’t heard anything at all. I’m sick of being dragged along for a position that may or may not be open anymore and hoping I’ll get it.

And people say we don’t want to work.

Tl;dr I was offered a position and left hanging for 6 weeks and was eventually ghosted by the recruiter.
