Anyone else have to jump through hoops to attempt to get Medical Leave.

I recently had surgery on my left knee which requires an initial two week recovery period + physical therapy time. Before my surgery, I attempted to get Medical Leave but in order to do that, I had to call someone for an hour, make some account with an insurance company and someone else on top of that and file a claim and maybe they would get back to me and possibly accept my claim. I ended up just using PTO I accrued as my company has a policy where we could have negative PTO up to -40 hours. It’s like companies want to suck the life out of you and instead I was back working the week after the surgery. At least I was WFM but I feel recovery is also mental alongside physical and I shouldn’t have to work two week or risk using precious PTO. Why can’t it…

Why can’t it be easy as giving paperwork from your healthcare provider proving surgery and recovery and sending that to HR?
