Antiwork

Anyone else live in a small town with little to no jobs, and all of them are terrible? It’s a pick-your-poison kind of deal.

I live in a small town with a population of 631. The only businesses we have is a quilt/craft store, a Dollar General, a pizza joint, a food truck, 2 schools, the library, and the post office. That's it for the whole town. The next town over is bigger with about 5,000 people, but it's a truck stop town, so it's all fast food joints, gas stations, and Walmart. There are no career jobs. Most places aren't hiring anyway. If you look up jobs nearby, the closest one is an 18-minute drive and it's usually something like scrubbing toilets with your bare hands (which my previous job actually had me do). There are no long-term jobs. The longest most people work is fast-food for a few days to a month and then Walmart for 2 months minimum or for the rest of their lives. It sucks.
