Apparently I was disrespectful

Hey! I just want to know that I am NOT insane whatsoever. I understand that the way I left is seen as unprofessional but honestly I would never put up with disrespect. I worked as a barista in a new up and coming cafe, and from day 1 I had other employees telling me to look like I was keeping busy or I would get scolded. I quickly saw what everyone was talking about when I got scolded over throwing out a receipt that I had no idea was for my section as I wasn’t trained fully yet. Months go by and several people left because of our employer’s lack of humanity and talking to everyone as he was above them. He literally would STARE at us and get upset over mistakes (Immediately would click his tongue at us and walk off in a disgust.) It’d make us so nervous…

He literally would STARE at us and get upset over mistakes (Immediately would click his tongue at us and walk off in a disgust.) It’d make us so nervous we’d mess up.

Constantly told us how expensive things were and made us feel like complete shit if we weren’t up to his impossible standards. Stating ‘You wouldn’t like it if it came out of YOUR paycheck.’

We were becoming so understaffed that he would borrow employees from his family’s stores (It was a family owned chain with different employers.) They would constantly comment how there were always new people coming in, that I probably wouldn’t stay so long. I was hired as a barista and became several other positions upon understaffing. When I asked if we’d get more staff he questioned me as an employee stating that I should do better and get better if thats the case. Meanwhile I was doing a fantastic job and well liked by customers and staff.

It all came to a head when yesterday I was told that my name was on a mistakes wall. I messed up ONE latte, and I was put on a wall visible to everyone about my mistakes, it felt so disrespectful to all my work that I have done to help out the store as I FELT bad for him honestly. I would drive almost an hour THERE and BACK 5 times a week to be treated like garbage really.

I quit immediately after er ending my shift and sent a text stating all the mistakes I noticed he did as an employer and stated we aren’t perfect beings but to stop treating employees as they are less than human because of one mistake.

What prompted 4 hours later was an EMAIL I skimmed and deleted because I was not having it but I was told that I was wildly disrespectful, not a team player and went on to complain to me about company expenses that staff meals and employee benefits came from somewhere and that it’s inconsiderate of me to complain about being guilted about company costs. I’m an employee it’s not my fault you bought expensive matcha.

He was so mad that I wouldn’t speak to him personally but rather through a text and that I don’t know the work he’s done to get here (Loaded family with a chain restaurant loved by the county so he was handed a lot of his life I’m assuming by the colossal meltdown he had.) However, it was alright to publicly shame me.

I know what I did was not professional as I did write a list of his mistakes but am I wrong to be like wtf is his problem? Am I the drama?
