Applied for a promotion, and I didn’t get it. The person who was asked by management did get it.

I applied for 3 different supervisor roles, and each time, I was told that I didn’t have enough experience or I didn’t have as much experience as the person who did accept the job offer. A little background about me. I am a backup supervisor for my shift, and I have filled in plenty for the supervisor because she does have health problems, her mom is getting really old, and she did catch COVID and was out for a month. She also takes longer vacations to go visit family or do other things outside of work. Where I work there has been some shifting in supervisors because someone moved on to a different company. I applied to a number of supervisor roles, but the last one really bugged me. I found out that someone who didn’t want the job was “begged” to apply for the job. If she really didn’t want the job, she could have just said no. After she got the job, she told me she was “peer-pressured” into applying. There were plenty of times to say no, but she said yes. Now the real big stab to the gut. I was told by another coworker that the person who did get the job was asked by management to apply.

I know that there is politics no matter where you work, but management had shown favoritism by essentially making the hiring process a formality. It wasn’t about hiring the best person. I’m done with management at my current job, and I will start looking for something else.
