I started with a new (commercial insurance) agency in June after severe burnout at my previous agency where I consistently had 100+ emails daily, 50+ calls and voice-mails daily, and over 500 clients which was the workload of at least 3 people. I thought I had hit the jackpot when I found this position… fully remote, promises of a lighter workload, $15k raise, and a signing bonus.
After two months, my boss is now berating me for asking questions while I try to learn this niche market I've never worked with before. She's told me I need to just figure it out (but there's no other place for me to find this info, she “just knows it”), and she's not going to give me corrected information anymore, just tell me when I've made a mistake/have outdated info and expect me to fix it correctly.
She's the type to work a ton of extra hours because “the job comes first” and I refuse to do that again. I've heard her toddler son crying in the background on calls because the work is more important than her son.
I know company loyalty isn't really a thing anymore, but switching jobs is exhausting. Is there any hope of finding a GOOD manager to work for? I don't want my job to be everything, I just want a paycheck and to be able to do my work without being made to feel stupid for asking questions.
