As a new and learning Socialist working within a Capitalist society…

How do you deal with the conflict that stirs within you when you're finally aware of the exploitation towards you and other working class? When you realize that you're not getting paid what you're worth or getting a livable wage? There's a part of me that hates the system and don't want to participate in it, yet there's also a part that enjoys the work that I do in my company at times. This consists of simply completing released jobs and helping or training new hires. When I've felt like I've done a good job and feel satisfied for the day, the thought of knowing I wasn't compensated for the extra hard work I've put in hits hard — and I don't consider a $25 Starbucks giftcard compensation. It becomes a reminder that I should just do the bare minimum or less, and take advantage of the company as much…

It becomes a reminder that I should just do the bare minimum or less, and take advantage of the company as much as I can.

I want to eventually leave it by learning a skill and becoming a freelancer or work for a company requiring the learned skill and that doesn't function the way mine does where lack of deserved compensation is always the issue for many of the workers.

The exploitation feels inescapable..or it is inescapable.

While I do feel and think all this, this company has been the best by far when we're talking about a healthier working environment. The feeling of hate is still far strong and moving up to a higher position within the company feels like a betrayal to what I now believe in.

I work in an Aerospace company and currently part of the logistics team. Two positions are being offered to me — Scheduler and Tester/Assembler. Scheduler from what I heard offers the most pay. I'm so damn conflicted that it's affecting my decision on moving up and deeper within the company no matter which position I take. And if I do take one of the two, I would gauge which position actually makes a difference in our society..probably the assembler since it requires building airplane parts that transport hundreds of people. I consider this since I'd rather contribute something to the community in a work that I actually enjoy doing.

Anyways, if there's anyone that can relate, how do you manage living through these times as a Socialist? Is it accepting it partly and just “cheating” your way through it? Because why not, right? These companies take advantage of you, so you do the same back to them (somehow).

Please share your experiences.
