I’m just finishing up my first year as an electrical apprentice. I came across an interesting job posting in a related trade so applied on a whim. They ended up being very excited about me and offered me the job at my same pay rate. I told them it would actually be a pay cut when you factored in the commute/benefits so they came back and offered me a $3/hr increase.
I approached my current boss to see if he would match it and he told me “It wouldn’t be fair to the apprentices.” But that he’d think about it overnight.
I had a beer and start scrolling through want ads on a whim this evening as I contemplate my life altering choices and bam! A want ad for my job posted 15mins after I left work. The kicker? It pays on the top end exactly what I’m asking for.
Guess I got my answer.
