I (34F) have a master's degree, 5 years experience as a LEO, 4 years experience as an investigator recently lost my job making $30/hr. While applying to different positions as I hate sitting on unemployment, the only 2 offers I received were 2 sales positions in different industries. both minimum wage at $15/hr (no commission for 90days or benefits) which comes out to the exact same as the amount I get with unemployment. The icing on the cake is that I have to cover my tattoos and remove all piercings and cannot wear sneakers (even though I have serious medical issues with my ankle and cannot wear anything other than sneakers per medical orders). Am I nuts for being beyond insulted? I also live in NYC and pay all my own bills with no assistance whatsoever. (Single and child-free by choice). Seeing it from this view how on earth is $15 a liveable wage? And why is it in 2022 am I still expected to change my appearance when selling a gym membership or making calls for a car dealership service center?
It's really no wonder why HR and managers can't find people to work. It's not because we don't want to, it's because we will be homeless if we work for you.
