I had to hound my boss to pay me

Okay, so I used to work at 7-Eleven, It was okay in the beginning, it wasn’t fun scrubbing human shit of the bathroom wall, but I needed the money so I dealt with it. That was until my boss moved me from one location to another a good half an hour away. It wasn’t to bad a drive but the main reason I had taken the job in the first place was that it was like a minute away from my house, so it was just annoying. No, the real problem with the new location was the boss and his wife. The boss was just gruff and angry football dad, but his wife HATED me for some reason. I have literally no idea why. The new location operated very differently than the one I was trained at, and the boss didn’t bother to train me much, so I wouldn’t do…

Team lead and branch supervisor pressured me into reporting harassment

Long story short a supervisor from another branch office sexually harassed me and I was leaning toward not reporting. I asked for the opinion of my team lead and supervisor who both insisted I report to HR. I wasn’t leaning towards it but they insisted it was for my protection. Later I came to hear from the number two of my supervisor that they’re using it as leverage to hold over the branch office so that my supervisor gets promoted above the branch supervisor.. Although it feels safer that my supervisor gains that authority rather than my harasser, I feel so dumb and naive having believed in their altruism. Maybe they truly intended to protect my safety but it feels like an ethical grey area and there’s a clear cutthroat culture for upward mobility.

Music Johnny Paycheck

So way back in my high school and trade school working restaurant jobs, coming up on 20 years ago. I went thru a phase of listening to old country music, thanks Napster. I came across Johnny Paycheck and his song Take This Job and Shove It. I ended up making this my ring tone, on my flip phone, for work. Just so I knew when I would be getting a call about coming into work cause they were short staff or etc… Now every time I hear I just smile and laugh missing my old coworkers and the shenanigans we would get into, but not the mangers and some of their bs.

Docking hours for a natural disaster

I’m in my early 20’s, I live in Australia and work full time in finance. I left work halfway through the day because of the floods (as did most of us), as I was worried I wouldn’t be able to make it home. My boss didn’t pay me for those hours, which I do understand as I wasn’t actually working. Their reasoning was that the actual business didn’t shut down so they are under no obligation to pay us. But it rubbed me the wrong way as I am only earning graduate pay and they are millionaires. The fact that it was a natural disaster had me thinking they would have a heart. I don’t know maybe I’m just greedy

How to deal with annoying boss

At least 5 times every 10 minutes, my boss calls my name over the cubes and says every single update in his day. I’m a programmer, so every single time he does this, he ruins my flow. I just wish I could dial in and listen to music, and not have a middle manager ask me what I’m up to every 2 seconds. It really makes me happy when he doesn’t come to work and I can actually get things done.

Please help me feel less guilty

I left teaching in May to become my husband's primary caregiver. I decided to get a part-time job to help pay for my health insurance. The job is great and I like what I do but they hired me at minimum wage. I have a degree in education and 15+ years working with adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. I thought, given that all my skills apply to the job that I could negotiate a raise once I got hired. Well, I did get a raise but only because they raised the minimum wage by 87 cents. So I got a 87 cent raise. So now I'm looking for a new job because despite my boss being a great guy and often praising the work I do, it doesn't pay the fucking bills. But I feel guilty for looking and I'm struggling with how to tell him.
