I work as a dogwalker. We are considered “independent contractors”, there is no actual office and all our correspondence is handled through email. We don't have direct deposit and we get checks in the mail as payment. I don't really a whole lot about the company or my coworkers, since I don't meet them often. I have met one of my coworkers and we decided to keep in touch. Today I reached out to her and she told me she was sexually harassed by a client during one of her shifts on Wednesday. She immediately emailed the office and informed what happened, and requested that no other sitters be given that shifts since majority of petsitters are female. The company reassured her and took her off the shift. However, the next day, I went to the shift since it was on my schedule and had no idea that I was…

Recruiter bait and switch?
I had an interview yesterday for a job that had the salary listed in the job posting. It did seem higher than market rate, but I knew that I brought a lot to the table for this role. When the recruiter asked me what my salary expectations were, I regurgitated the range listed on the job posting and she was taken aback. She brought up my lack of experience numerous times and gave me a number that was 20k-30k lower than what was in the job description. I’m a bit confounded by this and am thinking that this may have been a way to draw applicants in and then pitch much lower wages. Has this happened to anyone? How do you typically avoid this? What do you say in these instances?
Work “training” (indoctrination)
I've never truly fit in with society and have always just scraped by on the edges. Have done various things for money, but most of them would be considered “hustling”. I've done lots of stuff under the table/for cash payments and have only done my taxes 3 or 4 times in my life. Not sure what motivated me, but I decided to go to school for Respiratory Therapy and will be graduating in May. I feel like I have finally found something that I'm passionate about. I truly love going into the hospital to work during my clinical rotations. I've excelled and all my professors think highly of me. I'm starting to think about applying and I'm worried my background will hold me back. What's my best strategy for explaining decades long gaps on my employment history? I wish I could just say I woekd for myself or was an…
Just wanted to share, and this felt like the appropriate place. The last job I had, they had you sign a piece of paper when you started saying that cell phones were to be left in your car or with a manager in the office. You would have to get a hold of the manager and have them unlock the office to get your own personal belonging. If you were caught with your cell phone, it is grounds for termination. It also, according to the GM, was grounds for his termination if he didn't enforce it. I worked here for two years. I started a new job two weeks ago, and one of the first things that my supervisor told me was that I should take out my phone if I'm bored. There is a portion of my day where, according to this supervisor, I can just “stand around and…
I work as a weekend receptionist at a gym (the boss owns the hotel branch and his son runs the gym). I really do like the job and my coworkers are amazing and super nice. Plus the time works for my student schedule but sometimes it really annoys me how entitled people are. A woman calls in to ask if a free family guest pass was left at the desk for her as the wife requested for one from my manager. I tried to locate it where it should have been left but couldn't find it. I told her i will have it found for when she comes in or she can show proof through a text/email/call and it would be no problem. She got super mad at me and hung up. i then get a call shortly afterwards from the boss's wife who starts shouting at me, she also:…
The audacity!
Hey y’all. I’ve been working for a small business in Oregon for nearly 3 years. In Feb ‘20, my hours were reduced by half. My business owner talked about a PPP loan, and said that if it worked out, he’d be able to continue paying us full time wages for part time work. When I checked back a month or so later, he said the PPP loan “didn’t work out”. I am currently leaving this job due to having been unable to make more than 25-30 hours of work since Feb ‘20, despite asking for more hours multiple times. I’ve received unemployment benefits for much of this period, but have not since the start of this year. Recently, I found a link that lists all the PPP recipients. The business was listed. He received a loan in the realm of $150k, which was forgiven in Aug ‘20. Did my employer…
I don’t even need to be at the office to do my job. I feel like managers learned nothing over the pandemic.
