Worst Work Accident I’ve Ever Had

I work a salaried position but am only asked to work 8-5. I caught myself working too hard and accidentally stayed until 5:01. The accident (luckily) wasn't fatal. Don't let yourself make the same mistake that I did!

Join the trades, they said…

I heard there was a tradesmen shortage and i didn't want to go to college and be in debt so i went to trade school (still too expensive but paid it off) and became an electrician. I applied and within a month got hired because the company said they really needed more workers. Great sign, i thought. Well they started me $18 an hour. The city's minimum wage there was $15 an hour. “Whatever, I'll get a pay bump soon” i thought because this is an actual career. Well i quickly learned many of my coworkers who were skilled and been there 2 plus years were either getting paid $22 to $27 range, which was not enough to live on in that area. The only ones making $40 to $60 where the journeymen who held the leverage because of their license. And here is when i quit after a year.…

I hate it here

I'm in such a goddamn mood right now. I'm on my second week of training – where I'm on camera the whole time and my screens are being recorded – making slightly over $14 an hour after taxes. I'm working inbound guest services (which I HATE) handling questions for a cruise line selling cruises I will never be able to afford. I'm so TIRED of working for peanuts while selling luxuries they don't pay me enough to afford myself. I'm tired of seeing job postings where they don't even bother to list compensation, offer absolutely SHIT compensation, or act like $15 an hour is some ungodly level of riches. Im tired of working 40+ hours a week, losing precious time with my son, losing precious time of my own life, where I can't even… use the restroom when I want or drink when I want, all to make a fucking…

Do what you are paid to do, don’t ever go above and beyond at work for more than 6 months

I have worked for a few companies throughout many years. After I saw what was happening at work places, I decided to be emotionally detached from the people I work with and only do what I am paid to do. I don’t know how many people feel the same way. At my first job, I was paid only half of the market salary. I always go in early and stay late, I was the boss’s favorite employee, I felt stable and happy even though the pay was not good. But after 6 months, the boss must felt that they locked me in, they started to change my work hours, the reason being “you are very important to the company, we need you”. They asked me to work on weekends. Even though I was super upset about it, I agreed. Then when I requested for vacation, they would always find reasons…

Reminder that commute is part of your work

If you drive 1hour to your work. That means 2 hours a day, 10 hours per week that you spend exclusively on your work, qnd that's probably not being paid at all.

My boss cited a New York Times article about why we have to come back to work, this article is the most bias article I have seen in a long time

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/24/business/return-to-work-office.html If you read this, it is completely from the side of the employer. There are no actual points as to why returning to the office is necessary just a bunch of insecure managers that do not have lives outside of the office touting their bullshit. Since my boss brought it up we have been required to come in 6 times. They have come in twice and basically, all but 1 senior staff member have come in 3 or fewer times. We are adults and we are being treated as children. I have been highly productive working from home and it allows me freedom in my life, but this weird push to come into the office is having me reconsidered working here.
