Coworker slipped on ice because we came into the office

This situation was entirely preventable. We work from home two days a week and there is literally no reason not to work from home permanently except that our boss thinks it’s “good for everyone to see each other face to face”. We knew there would be icy weather days in advance but did not get the okay to work from home. My boss says the office is open and she is going in. I consider staying home but I give in because I’m an idiot. When she gets in the office she says she will send us home early if it starts getting bad. None of us know what she’s waiting for because it’s misting and drizzling all morning and is below freezing outside. She basically waits until it is icy and the roads are bad and lets us loose. Our cars are all covered in a fresh sheet of…

Stealing pto

Came into work this morning to see that pto was missing. Thought my supervisor submitted it for a vacation I was taking in two weeks. Nope! It was submitted for two days when I was sick last week. I didn't authorize it or was even told about it. Apparently it's company policy that payroll requires 80 hours on a timesheet. So I asked what about my vacation? Was told I could take those days off, then I asked but how will payroll work that out if I don't show 80 hours? Crickets BTW I was heated and overwhelmed with anxiety. I have anxiety that I am being treated for too.

the call this morning is a fucking circus

on a call right now – where one guy (my bosses boss – easily making 6 figures) is arguing that he cannot tell how many products the supplier is shipping us. the supplier just told us at the beginning of this call how many they have shipped, and how many they will ship next month (aka – 1st quarter). they have gone back and forth for 10 minutes now, with my divisions director saying how many will you send this quarter, and the production manager for the other company getting audibly more frustrated as he has to say it over and over again, but its still not getting through. easily over a million dollars in salary on this call (6 people) and the smartest one is the production lead, who likely has the lowest salary … once again the director of the supplier is asking the production lead to send…

Employee passed away, manager tries to replace them

I work for a huge company and we are moving into a new building. As part of the move into this building, they needed help setting up before everyone moves in, so I went in one day when I didn’t have a lot of work to do. My task was to give every desk a keyboard and a packet with tech info. I was doing this with another person who was checking the file and making sure the names at each desk matched up with where they were supposed to be. Super simple stuff. Anyways, we get to one section and there was a lady who was working their early, before others moved in so it was just her. As we were setting down the keyboards the person I was working with was going through the names of each desk. When we got to one desk, the lady who was…

I got berated for doing my job.

I know this is different than the usual flavor here, but I’m upset and need to vent. I work food manufacturing. There’s a thing called Food Defense that became law in the last couple years. Says that all food and ingredients has to be locked up when not being monitored by employees. Remarkably inconvenient and leads to a lot of excess work but what can you do? Apparently you can yell for five minutes at the person trying to explain it to you and asking that you just wait until employees are actually allowed in the area before unlocking shit. And then get mad because now your employees are five minutes late to getting into the area. This person is only half a pay grade above me, not even that senior to me (and brand new to the facility). I swear the smallest piece of power makes people think they…

Please say at least the country you are posting from

I don’t know how to message the mod team on here but I think it’s important that people start putting the country they are posting from and the state if it’s the US. I see so many people giving various advice on posts but without knowing where OP is from, it’s wasting time and potentially giving OP bad information. Ex: not all states in the US have at-will employment meaning some places DO require resignation notices. So telling every single post that they don’t have to give notice is going to screw some people over eventually.

How to kill the movement

Alright, so I know bosses lurk in this sub. I know there might be some capitalist reading this and wondering “How do I stop this? How do I prevent people from organizing?” Well, I'm gonna snitch. Not the very thing someone who mods should say. But, here's the secret to stopping any movement that might spring from this dead: Fucking pay people a living wage Give them goddamned health care and days off Stop treating them like shit I know I might be thrown out for giving up the vital weakness of the current worker's movement. But let's be entirely honest: The people who put themselves in charge won't do any of the above unless we, the workers, make them.

Why even eat there?

We see so many posts about service industry jobs, Macdonald's etc. Why are people still eating at these places? And not because of the working conditions and pay etc, on health grounds we shouldn't even set foot in a McDonald's. And then take into account you can make a much better meal for less at home it's a no brainer. These places shouldn't even exist
