Does anyone have the original mod’s statement regarding the Jesse Watters interview?

That one mod whose name started with a K who had only recently joined the mod team is who I'm referring to. I'm writing an article about this subreddit for my school's paper and I want to pull a couple of quotes regarding how it was originally a more philosophical subreddit from their statement. Thanks!

Access to Employee Files

Hi all, Recently it was brought to our staffs attention that we have employee files that list the good/bad/ugly on all of our staff and our manager noted that the treatment we get (I.e the opportunities and shifts we are given) are influenced by this. But we do not receive employee reviews, and she is denying us access to these files. Can’t find legality info on this online – located on east coast of Canada. Any help?

Couldn’t we all just pick a day to not go to work?

The industry is so desperate for workers and so desperate for service and retail yet still proceeds to treat us like trash. If we all just didn’t show up one day I feel like everyone would just explode. If we just picked a Saturday in the near future they couldn’t stop us. I’ve been thinking about it for a long time and I truly believe this is the only way to convince boomers that they need give the younger generation/service/retail workers better because we could just stop one day. The pay we currently get isn’t worth it, we have no benefits, no 401K yet our corporations treat us like shit and don’t defend us or let us talk back/defend our selves to unruly customers and Karen’s.

Tip Theft

Long time lurker and supporter of this sub/movement (usually from my main account, but using this one for security purposes). Anyway! I work in the service industry in a town highly driven by tourism, so of course the last few months of our “off season” have been a huge struggle for everyone, myself included. At this establishment, we all share tips; we split cash at the end of each shift and the rest is supposedly divided into our checks. Outside of this, we are paid an hourly rate, with a guaranteed minimum with tips. MINIMUM. We can make more of our tips add up to more, however, it seems that our tips (even during peak season) are just enough to meet the minimum rate and not a cent more. When my manager quit, he told the owners it was due to tip theft and the response was that tips were…

No pay increase for a required masters degree.

I work in healthcare and currently in grad school for my MSN. I was set up to be the clinical educator for my unit. I would be in charge of the orientations, educating staff, and working on policies. The job requires a masters. Cool, working on that. Due to change in my units management, I knew I would be asked to staff on top of the clinical educator responsibilities. So like, 50+ hours. To add to it, there is no one currently in the position. AKA there’s no one to train me and I’d be flying by the seat of my pants. I inquired with HR about the pay. Reasonable thing to do, right? Before I continue, lemme tell you how the RN pay works: I get a base pay and then extra on the hour depending on what hoops I jump through. So the salary for the new job…

Fun tidbit from our negotiations

My union is currently negotiating with the evil overlords (Kroger and Albertsons.) Since we have actual workers and not just union people at the table, we get more details. This was my favorite. Company points out that people want more hours/money. They have a solution! Get rid of the “limitations” of overtime. If a company has to pay you more money to work overtime, that limits the amount of overtime they can give. Get rid of extra pay and the overtime is unlimited! It's the “freedom” to work as much as you want! This is going to be fun.

Why do jobs say competitive pay? Just say what salary you’re offering. Stop beating around the bush.

It annoys me, and I skip over job apps like that because it seems like a job trying to beat around the bush instead of just admitting what they’re paying. If they actually were paying decent pay, they would say it because they would know it would draw people to work for them.

[USA] Why is taxation the issue and not mismanagement of money and resources?

I see a lot of comments, posts, and even news headlines about billionaires not paying taxes and, while I agree with the sentiment that billionaires get away with too much, why isn’t the issue about our government mismanaging the heck out of the money it already has? Taxes are high, the government only helps itself, and politicians on both sides get richer every year. My perspective is that we have two simultaneous issues: there are too many billionaires from a stacked system of reallocated wealth AND the government sucks and wouldn’t help more people if it had more money. So, who cares about billionaires paying taxes when the money would go towards corruption anyway?

Do you report ridiculous job posts or contact them and tell them about it?

Sometimes I just to go to indeed and point out the ridiculousness of a posting, masters for only 16 an hour, competitive pay etc. I send them a message or attached a resume, it looks like one but it'll say how absolutely bonkers their rates are. I've had several job posts fix their description. So workflow is indeed, then search on ziprecruiter or glassdoor Am I wasting my time or not??
