I’m a social work master’s student in the US, and part of the required curriculum for all MSW students is to have a 9 month internship (or 2, depending on if you had a bachelor’s in social work already or not). My school has us apply to internships we are interested in and go through the whole interview process and we are only allowed to apply to internships they have pre-approved and are listed in a special internship database they maintain. I’ve been at my job for almost 7 months, it’s my first “big boy job” out of school. When I originally interviewed for the position I was relocating across the country (US) so they kind of had me by the balls with a low ball offer – I needed the proof of income to secure a rental – and they justified it by calling me a “new grad”. Technically speaking I was a new grad by definition but (in order of accrual) I have an associates degree, a bachelors, two certifications, and another associates (which is the school I had just graduated from). I keep seeing stories involving ultimatums to match offers. Don't do it. Nothing else would change and they're going to immediately start figuring out workarounds and how to not depend on you. The other thing, to turn this positive, is that the new company sees a potential new asset, but your current employers just see some asshat that is getting too expensive.

Having graduated with an environmental studies degree in January I'm searching for employment in that field. In the mean time I'm working at McDonald's to pay off student loans however I know it's only a matter of time before I snap on a customer

TLDR at the bottom I apolgise as im writing this off my phone. A little context. I (18m) work for a hotel in a less than perfect area. We get a lot of sketchy individuals in and out. I have been working here for about 7 months and my manager (39F) has been there for around 2 years I do everything by the book and I do whatever im told. I would like to think im a great employee. I am a new construction house painter and am constantly dealing with picking up after all the other lazy trade employees who leave their trash in my way. No more caulk? Just throw that empty tube on the ground, f**k it painters can pick it up… Door jamb won’t fit? Cut the extra drywall out and just leave it there on the ground…duh…? Front door has broken glass panels from carpenter not installing door stop and door swinging open and smashing into the wall ten times a day? I’m expected to move/clean up all the broken glass, paint the broken door as told and then also the replacement when it shows up 3 weeks later (for free mind you, they only paid me to paint the one that got REPLACED). Drywall mudders got their crap all over the brand new hardwood floor, and it’s all on and in the grooves/wood…

Look at what's actually going on as the bosses care only about themselves and them making all the money and they have all the power so they use this tactic because they want to make you feel like working is a good thing for you. They want you to feel like your life is supposed to be shredding your skin off just to make scraps while the rich sit there do nothing all day, what they would call us lazy for and make money off of all of us because they were born rich and they get a free pass.
