I’m worth less. Are you?
My employer raised prices to account for rising costs (i.e. inflation). Sounds reasonable. But it seems their concern was only over the cost of MATERIAL resources, not HUMAN resources, because wages aren't going up. So, while raw materials are worth more than they were over the last couple years I'm apparently worth less. In fact, adjusted for inflation, I'm worth less than I was when I was hired seven years ago. Are you worth less too?
I was waiting for the bus and I noticed someone who was about my grandmothers age mopping up snow customers brought it, clearing snow off carts, and checking peoples receipts at the same time. The first thing I thought to myself is how hard she was working and I felt bad that someone her age had to work in the US. We strike up conversation and she tells me how two asshats told her she missed a spot as she was making sure they didn’t slip. Then she tells me that it’s her birthday and that Walmart didn’t give her time off even when she entered it into the system. I told her not to work too hard and I think I’ll bring her a gift tomorrow. Is there anything more I can do for her?
All the risk none of the reward
