Denied a promotion because I’m a workhorse.

I was denied for a promotion for very unclear reasons, and I assumed all sorts about why (my work performance is excellent, people in my department like me and rely on me but there are issues with my manager.) Then I was told that they decided I had been chosen for and should be trained for the promotion and I was obviously relieved and excited. When I inquired about it yesterday, since I noted that the training class had started and I wasn’t in it, I was told that ultimately it was decided that they “can’t afford to take me off of my workload” for training. That they chose to promote others who may have been less qualified because they do less work and the department wouldn’t be hit so hard. I said “Wow so I’m a workhorse and that’s why I’m not being promoted?” My manager laughed and said…

Moving from hourly to salary for less pay due to previous OT?

Posting on behalf of my wife, as she doesn't have Reddit. We work for the same company, currently fully remote. She has held an assistant supervisor position for the past 6 years and was finally offered a promotion to supervisor. The problem is that she is currently hourly and while not guaranteed, the trend has been that there is plenty of OT available throughout the year. The company offered her ~$1 per hour raise on her base salary but it will be exempt, meaning no possibility of OT. Including bonuses received last year and OT pay, the offer comes out to nearly $8K a year less. Her boss (who is also being promoted) said that the company won't budge off their offer. My advice was to counter and explain that while OT is not guaranteed, the 5 year trend shows that it isn't going away. My wife isn't sure that…

Wish I would have realized that being hired as being the only client service rep, among three other sales reps, would mean I would be doing ALL the leg work.

I got a new job recently, that I like okay (but since I was verbally abused at my last job, the bar is pretty low). My co workers are nice enough. Laid back. But here is my major complaint. (It’s an insurance office by the way.) This office is VERY sales oriented. They are focused on growth. Which is fine. I was hired to be a client service rep, because I am better at that than sales. I hate sales. I would rather help people than push them for more money. So I am doing what I prefer. BUT, I am the ONLY client service rep. Which I knew going in. But here is my issue. The other two girls (my boss is the 3rd, but she’s never here) will almost never answer the phone if it rings. Even if I am already on another call. They will let…

They keep raising the rates but not our pay

Forgive me if this doesn't look right, I'm always on reddit but I've never created a post. Anyway, I'm a mortgage underwriter. Since the beginning of the year the lender I work has raised their rates for the 5th time because of the inflation. You would think working for a company that follows the inflation rate closely they also would be taking employees into consideration. The rates keep going up, but our pay has not gone up with the rate increase. I'm guessing that will only come at the yearly reviews and that will only be 3% if that.

Was I hired just for the Super Bowl?

I (17F) just recently got my first job working at a pizza place a month ago. Fine, right? For a first job expierence working on weekends it's cool and all, and I am supposed to be paid decently (at least to me – minimum wage only gets you so far) Of course I was scheduled to work my shift for the Super Bowl, took peoples orders etc. I come in on weekends, but the next time I came in on Saturday after the bowl I was greeted with being left off the schedule for the following day and this upcoming week. I was told by one of my managers to call the owner who makes the schedules – he told me he would talk to me about it later but never showed up by the time I left. Call again to confirm I'm supposed to be left off the schedule…

Help, freaking out about new job

I’ve just started at this new place part time. I told them I was available 20 hours a week. They have me scheduled for about 35 this week with six shifts. This is way too much for me and I don’t think they’re going to change it. I’m fighting the urge to not show up. What would you do?

Got fired during probation. After a new manager joined who is also on probation

So I started working for this company last month who promised me that I would have a secure position even after the person I was meant to be under was leaving. This wasn’t a problem with me. So I ended joining because the pay was good. After this, the replacement of the person who hired me joins and within two weeks decides to fire me because apparently I’m not meeting the standards of the role when I haven’t even gotten accustomed to the role, what the company is about etc. so within two weeks he made his mind up about me with limited information. Also, said I wasn’t positive enough during mornings where I should be greeting everyone (wtf). I received zero notice and was fired over zoom. I’m in utter disbelief right now.

Fav part of working…

Is encouraging fellow coworkers to quit! 1 down, 1 to go. Our boss yells and the only people that seem to stay are the passive aggressive liars. Our surgery scheduler quit because our boss kept yelling and now the new medical assistant and I posted our resumes on Indeed to get out! I'm not finding anything besides medical front desk tho and I want to get the hell out of healthcare. Any advice? All I know is enrollment, retail and front desk no degree cause I'm broke atm.
