I feel I need to change careers
I’m a 33 yr old female I have a bachelors degree in business management and I’m also a registered paralegal with the state bar association, I have an associates degree in liberal arts and an associate in science paralegal studies. I make $20.50 an hour. Somehow nearly ten years ago I got into real estate closings and now I feel pin-hold to this industry. I also have borderline personality disorder and major depressive disorder. I’m a single mom to an 11 yr old and recently became a foster mom to one of her friends who has been in the horrific foster care system for three years now. My sister died last month from cancer, she died a year from her diagnoses so I’m sure you can imagine it was a steep decline. I sort of checked out of work after the last visit I had with her on thanksgiving because…
I work in a factory that is easing Covid restrictions. I overheard a co-worker mention that the company is going to be taking down the social distancing plexiglass barriers at the picnic tables where we eat. I asked my boss if they could leave the barriers up. I said that my doctor told me that my immune system is not functioning properly, due to an autoimmune condition. I said that I do not feel comfortable without the barriers because I can not wear my mask while eating. My boss said that is above his pay grade and I would need to talk to HR. What can I say when I talk with HR that will get them to leave the barriers up? HR and management has not been supportive or reacted well in the past when I have brought up concerns about Corona. I have not mentioned my immune condition…
It’s yearly raise season, how’d you do?
Lots of industries are doing annual raises right now, lets see how bad it really is in the face of 7.5% YoY inflation.
Breaks and Truck Scheduling
The shipping department I work at has us working through our breaks to load/unload trucks, I understand truckers get paid by the mile and it helps them get back on the road, but I feel like there has to be a better way so loaders don't have to work through their breaks and keep the truckers running. I have half a mind to just stop working and take my break, because I'm over taking my first break and eating when my 8hr shift is almost over. Are all shipping departments like this, because the last 2 I've been at were.
Taking a flight when I’m on the clock
So, to start, my last day of work is April 15…my boss is trying to renegotiate salary etc but I’m beyond over it. However, we are on a good note right now and I don’t want to wreck that. I have vacation/sick time but am highly discouraged from using it. Almost every time I’ve taken a day off I’ve gotten in trouble for it. Thus, it’s led me into the habit of going to appointments/traveling and coming up with excuses as I go. This has fared better for me! I have a flight tomorrow, and it’s 5.5 hours nonstop. My team doesn’t know. I’m terrified because I know my boss will call me. Sure I can work on my laptop on the flight but she will be suspicious about me not answering calls. I’m a terrible liar and have no idea what to come up with. My boss has been…
