Being a middle manager is a horrible job, but people take it in to move up the ladder, and many later regret it.

I’ve worked in the corporate sales world for 40 years, and have watched a lot of people in my industry get enticed into a promotion to a district manager from a sales rep position. They soon find out that it is the absolute worst job. They are always traveling, now responsible for 8 reps territories, away from their families, working long hours, and maybe worst of all, having to drink the company koolaid that they know is BS. Companies stroke a person’s ego, with a “promotion “ and more money, but these managers are the least valuable on our team. They don’t “sell” anything, don’t create opportunities to sell, and are there to ensure the territory reps are behaving themselves and documenting performance, or non-performance. Further, it is without doubt, that these same managers are the ones that break the company policies on a consistent basis, putting us in the field, in harms ways.

I don’t condone their behavior, but I understand they are under tremendous pressure to be successful.
But this is what THEY chose. I’m sorry they don’t have a life anymore. People at my level have a life that is not work related. Don’t hate me.
