Being Fired By IT Support Ticket by Manager I Didn’t Even Talk To

Hello r/antiwork, I was debating on posting this on here for a while, but because of how unusual (and downright awful) it was I've finally decided to share my story here. A few months ago I decided to get another job after working for over 6 years at my previous one. I was the only member on my team for while, COVID WFH policies were confusing & frustrating, and my new position was offering me an over 60% salary boost so the time I felt was right to move onto better things. Hello r/antiwork,

I was debating on posting this on here for a while, but because of how unusual (and downright awful) it was I've finally decided to share my story here. A few months ago I decided to get another job after working for over 6 years at my previous one. I was the only member on my team for while, COVID WFH policies were confusing & frustrating, and my new position was offering me an over 60% salary boost so the time I felt was right to move onto better things.

So I was working at my new position for several months and while a little overqualified I felt like I was settling in well. However I was called into a surprise meeting one morning saying that an upper manager felt that I wasn't performing good enough even though I was still in the training period for my new role. And sure I could've worked faster, but I was still in training and getting new IT resources so I thought I had more time. I took their comments to heart and started getting more things done that day.

However this is when the bad started happening. The role was essentially an IT support position (though it was advertised as a more data focused role, which is honestly just a lie) and later that afternoon I get some IT support tickets for my accounts in the trouble ticket platform that I was supposed to use an an employee. It was the upper manager that was mentioned in the meeting that I was in earlier that morning requesting that my accounts be deleted because “employee no longer works here”. That's how I found out I was let go. Not by email, not by text or phone call, not by a meeting with my direct supervisor, a friggin' IT ticket; by a manager I had never even had a one on one conversation with (the role was remote but we never had any Zoom meetings or even a 1 on 1 email convo). This rogue manager blindsided not only me, but the rest of my team and other management staff.

Luckily this job was technically a contracting role so I was able to get transferred to a new position later that afternoon. So this awful experience doesn't damage my resume. And these genius employers wonder why no one wants to work for them anymore? Also legacy IT can kick rocks because situations like that are *way* worse than just an out of date technology problem. I'm moving along in my new job and even though I was a leftist *long* before this experience I trust management even *LESS* than I did before, which I didn't think was possible. Tl;dr capitalism sucks, management tyrants suck, and sometimes certain jobs are not worth your time & simply don't respect you. Deuces.
