I work for a very large company. The small company that I worked for was acquired by this company in 2016. My grandmother passed away on Sunday. I texted my boss Monday morning, before my shift, to inform her that I wouldn't be in and told her the funeral would be Friday. She submitted 2 days of OPA, one for Monday and one for Friday. My request was denied because the company ” typically only allows one day for a grandparent”. Now, I wouldn't miss my grandmother's funeral even if it meant termination. But what about those who grew up with their grandparents as their parents? It's not a huge deal to me, personally, I'll just take vacation hours for the time to attend the funeral. I really think of those people that aren't fortunate enough to have that luxury.
