Bit of a long rant, but didnt really have anywhere else or anyone to vent to about this.
Something i heard countless times as a young chronically homeless person who aged out of foster care. I also have schizoaffective, and im trans. People dont factor in the other two barriers ive faced with employment even while housed, but now that im stable in housing and close to getting my goal job soon, ill hear someone say the homeless population just doesnt want to work at a job, that being humiliated begging is just a choice.
Some people are so poor, even indoors, they cant get a fucking job anywhere. But homeless people? Youre not even welcomed or trusted in most businesses, not even in full view grabbing a bottle of water to pay for, let alone get hired there to man the register.
Every app ive ever filled out requires an address, some require you have a car, but even if those werent issues, who wants to hire someone whos not able to keep their clothes or body clean like a housed person can, who cant be sure theyll get enough sleep on their off time, who might not be able to keep a phone on with time or power to just set alarms to get to work on time.
Its been an increase lately where ive heard this tired ass classist excuse to hate some of the most vulnerable in society, one guy i got heated with trying to explain this shit to, actually said theres help wanted signs everywhere so places are desperate enough to overlook every issue i gave, smirking at me like he just proved his point that homeless people are just lazy.
Yea cuz cops playing sleep dep hide and seek, and carrying your whole life on your back day after day, walking miles upon miles, yea thats some lazy people doing all that.
