Big Boss Small Talk

A quick rant while I’m on my break. I work in a hospital kitchen and we have been critically understaffed since the beginning of 2020. At this point, I’m a one man prep and stock team for every walk-in: deli meats, sandwiches, salads, veggies, you name it. A quick rant while I’m on my break.

I work in a hospital kitchen and we have been critically understaffed since the beginning of 2020. At this point, I’m a one man prep and stock team for every walk-in: deli meats, sandwiches, salads, veggies, you name it. Working all weekend AGAIN and not getting holiday hours because “we can’t afford to have people taking holidays off”. Fuck the 4th but anyways.

One of our big bosses is in to help with the staff line so all the nurses and doctors can grab lunch, and don’t get me wrong, I’m exceedingly grateful for the help on a Saturday morning, god knows I don’t wanna be here so props for him coming in so early.

But oh my god, the forced small talk is like an ice pick slowly being driven into my brain. There is no worldly connection between those that are in this kitchen every day and the bosses that pick and choose their hours for six figures. No one can talk about the constant union issues for fear of even more pushback from our administration. If I have to laugh at one more shitty joke I’m going to [redacted].

Thanks for listening.
