Billy Pilgrim and the big machine : The real reason for RTO

It’s not about culture, collaboration or any other corporate catchphrase. It’s about keeping the big machine going. It’s about Billy Pilgrim filling up his tank twice a week for his commute to the office. It’s about Billy Pilgrim dropping off his kids at a daycare facility before picking up his five dollar cup of coffee each weekday morning. It’s about Billy Pilgrim pulling out his punch card and handing it to the sandwich artist when he picks up his luke-warm hoagie on his lunch break. It’s about making sure Billy Pilgrim is safely accounted for in his 4×4 cubicle, (it’s for his own good, afterall), and remains single mindedly focused, along with everyone else sitting under the harsh glare of the fluorescent lights, on the same impossible task: infinite growth. And Billy is none the wiser, completely unaware of the big machine sputtering on around him, senile and dying, but…
